'Scrubs' returned for season 10 after a 16-year hiatus
The beloved sitcom's stars — including Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke — reprised their roles
As of the season 10 finale on April 15, the series has not been renewed for season 11
As season 10 of Scrubs — and the first season of the reboot — has come to an end, the future of the show has not yet been confirmed.
The beloved medical sitcom returned for a 10th season more than 15 years after the original series came to an end in 2010. Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke all reprised their roles as the main cast of characters, while Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley also made guest appearances.
Season 10, which aired its finale on April 15, revolved around the returning characters stepping back into their scrubs for the first time in years at Sacred Heart Hospital. However, as time has passed, new doctors and nurses — including characters played by Vanessa Bayer, Ana Bun, David Gridley and Joel Kim Booster — have come aboard and changed the dynamics.
"Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way," the logline reads.
Here's everything to know about a potential Scrubs season 11 — including what the cast and creator have said about a possible renewal.

As of April 2026, Scrubs has not been renewed for season 11. While the reboot hasn't been given the greenlight, both the cast and the creator have expressed interest in returning.
In addition, season 10 soared in popularity and has garnered millions of viewers for each episode.
The premiere hit 11.4 million viewers in the five days following the debut, making it ABC's most-streamed comedy episode and series premiere in more than a year, according to Variety. The following three episodes also made it ABC's No. 1 series in the 18-49 age range, per Deadline.

Bill Lawrence, who created both the original series and the reboot, said that he's "really hopeful" the series will get renewed for season 11.
“We’re all crossing our fingers that they let us do a whole bunch more, but we’re really hopeful,” he told Deadline, while adding, "I’m so happy and grateful that anybody still cares about that show."
Lawrence explained that he enjoyed getting to reunite with his old cast and crew members, while also getting to know a new cast.

“I love the people that are in it so much, not only the old ones because I’ve talked way too much about Zach and Donald and Sarah, I’ve been working with them a long time," he said. "All the new kids are great as well."
He continued, "It’s been really cool, metaphorically, to watch not only the actors, Donald, Zach and Sarah, who were the kids, be the older people, both professionally and in real life, to a new group of young actors and actresses, but even behind the scenes."

While many of the cast members have kept quiet about another potential season, several of them have gushed about working together again — as well as what a new season could look like.
Braff told TVLine in March 2026 that he hopes McGinley, who made a few guest appearances as Dr. Perry Cox, can come back in a more permanent role if there's a season 11.
"I know the fans have been really eager to see John again, and I really want everyone to know he's coming back," Braff teased. "I can't give away spoilers, but what we're teeing up is a situation where, if we're lucky enough to get a Season 2, he can be around a whole lot more."
Braff shared that he and the rest of the Scrubs team were "working" on incorporating past beloved characters, as well.
"If and when we're lucky enough to get a full order, our plan is to set up situations where Neil [Flynn] can recur and Johnny can be there a whole lot more," Braff said. "And Judy, even though she's on [High Potential], can be there a whole lot more. I just want all the fans to know that we're on the same page with you."
What would Scrubs season 11 be about?

If Scrubs were to be renewed for season 11, it would most likely pick up where season 10 ended, with several of the returning characters burning out and Dr. Cox asking J.D. to take care of him amid a major health crisis.
“I thought it was really brave of Bill Lawrence to explore exhaustion and fatigue and burnout in a real way for a guy who traded on Alpha and being a lion,” Braff told PEOPLE. “Seeing that Alpha lion freaking exhausted and toast, and that writers can write that, those kind of damaged characters writers can write richly, that's a thrill for actors to get that on the page.”
Lawrence teased that Ken Jenkins, who portrayed Dr. Kelso, could also return for a new plot point.
"Dr. Kelso (Ken Jenkins) will be back next year," he told Deadline. "It just didn’t work out this year but it will next year.”
