Nancy Cartwright — best known for voicing Bart on The Simpsons — is sharing the most surprising place she was ever recognized for her voice.
The longtime voice actress spoke to PEOPLE on the red carpet of The Simpsons 800th episode party at The Fonda Theater in Hollywood CA on Friday, Feb. 6.
"You know what, I'm thinking it was on a train in South Africa," Cartwright, 68, told PEOPLE of a trip in which someone recognized her iconic voice.
She continued: "I'm not kidding. It's like we were on safari and it got recognized by this kid, a 12-year-old kid or something. 'Oh, I can't get away from it. Oh, they're coming in mobs.' "

Cartwright got the role of Bart — a perpetually 10-year-old kid — on the spot, she told PEOPLE, after she first went in to audition for his sister, Lisa.
Saying he was described as a "10-year-old underachiever, school-hating underachiever and proud of it," Cartwright recalled thinking "wait a minute, that's more interesting" in her audition.
The rest, of course, was history, with the show debuting first as a series of animated shorts on The Tracy Ullman Show and, in 1990, as part of Fox’s Sunday night lineup that at the time included Married… with Children.

Cartwright is also the aunt to pop star Sabrina Carpenter, confirming the relation in a July 2024 TikTok.
“Isn’t that amazing?" she said in the video. "Maybe you’ve known me for a little while, doing this little 10-year-old boy for 35 some years — and some of you guys for way less than that — and find out that I’m related to this superstar.”
“She’s pretty amazing,” concluded Cartwright of Carpenter.
