Sheriff Country, which premiered last fall, is a spinoff of Fire Country and focuses on the fictional Edgewater County Sheriff's Office and specificaly Sheriff Mickey Fox. She was first introduced in the second season of Fire Country as the stepsister of division chief Sharon Leone, played by Diane Farr.

The series finds Mickey working to keep Edgewater safe while navigating family troubles. Mickey is tested as she reconnects with her previously incarcerated father, remains in contact with her ex-husband and navigates being a mother to someone addicted to drugs. Given the challenges she goes through, Baccarin says her character has provided her with a lesson in endurance.

“She really takes a beating and keeps on going,” Baccarin says. “Not that that’s heroic, but sometimes it’s necessary.”

Along with Baccarin, Sheriff Country stars Matt Lauria as Nathan Boone, W. Earl Brown as Wes Fox, Michele Weaver as Cassidy Campbell and Christopher Gorham as Travis Fraley.

“We really do have a good group and we’re all very supportive of each other,” Baccarin says of her castmates. “I know that I couldn’t do the job that I do without them supporting me.”

The Fire Country spinoff recently announced that it would return for a second season, featuring Amanda Arcuri, who plays Mickey’s daughter Skye Fraley, and Ian Quinlan, who plays Deputy Hank Iglesias, as series regulars. "We have an incredible set together, cast and crew," Baccarin says. "I know everybody says that, but we really do have a good group and we're all very supportive of each other. I couldn't do the job that I do without them supporting me."

She adds, "Just like Edgewater is a town with people and families and stories, so are we behind the scenes."

Sheriff Country airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
