Sandra Bullock is returning to the spotlight after the August 2023 death of partner Bryan Randall, whom the actress called the love of her life.

Randall died at just 57 years old due to complications from ALS.

Since then, Bullock has “spent a lot of time healing” before returning to work, a source close to her said.

Nearly three years after the death of partner Bryan Randall, Sandra Bullock is emerging back into the spotlight after she “spent a lot of time healing” with her kids.

It has been a big week for Bullock, who hit the red carpet alongside Nicole Kidman on April 14 at the CinemaCon presentation of Warner Bros.’s slate of forthcoming films, which includes Practical Magic 2. The duo will reprise their roles from the 1998 original in the long-awaited sequel, which is out September 11.

Practical Magic 2 will be Bullock’s first screen credit since 2022.

On the same day she hit the red carpet in a red-hot Gabriela Hearst suit—wearing a tiny leather bra as a top, no less—Bullock joined Instagram. In just three days, the actress amassed 5 million followers and counting.

Bullock’s return to the limelight follows a period of mourning after Randall’s death in August 2023, the result of a years-long private battle with ALS. “After everything she went through with Bryan, she needed time to care for herself,” a source told People.

“She spent a lot of time healing, being with her kids, and being at home,” the insider added of Bullock, her son, Louis, and her daughter, Laila. “She needed to ensure that she and her kids were in the best possible place for her to go back to work.”

Of Practical Magic 2, Bullock “has worked on this project for the last few years in order to get it made as a producer and as an actor and she’s having fun with the entire process.”

“She has a tight circle of very loyal friends in the industry who have stood by her through everything,” the source said. “Having that kind of support has made a big difference.”

Bullock and Randall, a model-turned-photographer who was just 57 years old at the time of his death, met in January 2015. After his death, a source told People that Bullock was thankful for “the incredible outpouring of support toward ALS research since Bryan’s passing.”

Speaking on “Red Table Talk” in December 2021, Bullock—who helped care for Randall—said (per E! News), “I don’t need to be told to be ever-present in the hardest of times. I don’t need to be told to weather a storm with a good man.” In March 2022, she told CBS News, “Right now, work in front of the camera needs to take a pause.”

The break, she said, would last “until I don’t feel like I feel now when I’m in front of a camera,” adding, “I want to be at home…I just want to be present and responsible for one thing.”

On “Red Table Talk,” Bullock called Randall “the love of my life,” adding, “He’s the example that I would want my children to have.” Since his passing, Bullock has never spoken about Randall’s death, nor has she had any public relationship in the years since.
