Dun dun – and done? "Law & Order: Organized Crime" has been canceled after five seasons.

NBC announced the crime show's cancellation Thursday, April 16, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.

The spinoff in the police procedural universe of producer Dick Wolf ran for four seasons on NBC before transitioning over to Peacock in its fifth season. The show followed Detective Elliot Stabler, with actor Christopher Meloni reprising his "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" character, now working on an organized crime task force.

Meloni spoke out about the cancellation in an emotional video Thursday, April 16, holding back tears as he thanked fans.

"Hey everyone, I just saw that they announced 'OC,' 'Organized Crime' won't be coming back," Meloni said. "So I wanted to take this moment to say thank you to the fans, who not only helped give the character of Elliot Stabler life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back."

He continued, his eyes beginning to well with tears: "Good ride. It was a good ride, I had a great time playing him. It was a great ride, but thank you. You helped give me a career that I never dreamed of. Nearly 17 odd years."

Meloni captioned the post simply: "Thank you OC/SVU fans. You gave me a life."

He last appeared in the Season 12 finale, exiting in 2011 after failed contract negotiations and leaving costar Mariska Hargitay to lead the show solo. Her empathetic and fiercely protective Olivia Benson, now captain of the NYPD's Special Victim's Unit in Manhattan, has becoming the longest-reigning character in primetime TV.

"This was a classic two-hander with her and Chris [Meloni]. To go from a dual-lead show to a single-lead show, and to have it survive and prosper, is a miracle," Wolf told USA TODAY in 2021. "Everybody at NBC assumed the year after Chris left would be the last of the show, and she turned it around. It was a little-noted but huge accomplishment. It’s amazing that the entire structure of the show changed."

"Organized Crime" has done multiple crossover episodes with both "Law & Order," now in its 25th season, and "Law & Order: SVU," now in its historic 27th season, over the years, including in its Season 5 premiere.

The show's 10-episode fifth season premiered almost a year to the day after news of its cancellation broke, airing on Peacock on April 17, 2025, before running on NBC in the fall.

Meloni spoke to USA TODAY just before the fifth season aired, describing sharing the screen with Hargitay "like slipping into a warm bath; you know what you're getting."

"There's not going to be a problem. You get to focus on making the scene as honest and interesting as you possibly can. You don't have to worry about personalities or having an offbeat difference of opinion."
