Anne Hathaway revealed that Taylor Swift passed her a secret note mid-Eras Tour performance.

Hathaway said someone tapped her on the shoulder and passed the note to her in the audience.

"She was kind of like an angel I felt was over our heads all of the time," Hathaway said of playing a pop star in Mother Mary, with inspiration from real singers.

Anne Hathaway is apparently a Swiftie for life after Taylor Swift passed her a secret note mid-concert when the Oscar-winning actress attended an Eras Tour show in Europe.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 star stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert earlier this week to promote her own pop star transformation in David Lowery's new drama Mother Mary, and she told a story about a joyous moment she shared with Swift in 2024.

"We do know each other, yeah," Hathaway replied when Colbert asked if Hathaway and Swift were friends, as Swift's artistry inspired the actress' portrayal of the titular Mother Mary character. Hathaway then said she got tickets to see Swift on the Eras Tour in Germany while in production on the film.

"She came out on stage and the whole place exploded. She makes the audience feel so loved, and she made me feel so loved. I'm like, 'Oh my God, Annie, you're so cute! You think Taylor Swift is waving to you right now,'" Hathaway remembered, adding that, "Somebody tapped me on the shoulder and said, 'Taylor wants you to have this.'"

Hathaway said the person handed her a note, which she quickly opened.

"Taylor said, 'I'm so happy you're here, I'm going to be enthusiastically waving at you,' and I was like, oh my God, she's so magical, she did! She did the thing! I was right, I am special!"

The star also elaborated on Swift's influence on Mother Mary, telling the audience that Swift "was kind of like an angel I felt was over our heads all of the time" because director Lowery "is a huge Swiftie, and he was really influenced by the Reputation Tour for all of the concert scenes."

Hathaway added that she was influenced by Swift's 2020 documentary Miss Americana, which she praised "how vulnerable she let herself be" in the project.

While Hathaway said the central pop star in Mother Mary is "her own thing," she and Lowery "listened to Beyoncé, Gaga, Rosalia, we listened to Taylor Swift of course, Lorde, but also James Blake and Nine Inch Nails" to use as inspiration while crafting the character.

Funnily enough, Entertainment Weekly previously confirmed that Lady Gaga also appears alongside Hathaway and Meryl Streep in the highly anticipated sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Gaga and rapper Doechii also recorded a soundtrack song for the new film, "Runway," which debuted as part of the final full-length Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer ahead of the movie's May 1 theatrical bow.

Mother Mary — also starring Emmy winner Michaela Coel — is in theaters now. Watch Hathaway discuss her Swift encounter in the video above.
